Hello, my name is Penny Dorgan this is my story:
I have always loved and excelled at art, but it took a right hemiparesis stroke and a stroke in the right eye, along with severe ulnar neuropathy for me to begin devoting more time to my passion. Working on my art everyday is extremely therapeutic, not only is it invaluable for my well-being, but it also great therapy to help strengthen my arms and hands.
During a 3 month hospital stint, I utilised my time well, by learning as much as I could about Resin Pours. I fell in love with the ‘glass stained window’ method used by Kathleen Miller from the USA.
I couldn’t wait to get home and build a spinning-pit and have a go. I found my happy place!
Having struggled through mental health episodes of unwellness I have learnt that colour is a type of therapy for me, it tends to stimulate and motivate me throughout my day. So I am using this to set up my own business to share my colour fascination with the world, my local community and abroad.
The technique I favour is drizzle, swipe, wreck and spin on white or black pillow of high gloss paint as a primary base. I feel indebted to Kathy Steinsdorf for sharing her love of resin work as an artist and igniting a new love for the ‘Art of Colour’ in my world.
Our Shed is an enlarged version of the backyard shed that has long been part of Australian culture.
Activities include:
Awareness of men’s health issues is a focus of our activities.
Our motto is “men don’t talk face to face – they work shoulder to shoulder”
